Maleine passed time aboard the shuttle to New Bethrezen by tinkering with the various lightsaber components she had received on Vjun. Prior to her coma, she had been toying with an idea for a new design variant. To her pleasure, she was able to construct the telescoping neck needed for the design over the course of her journey. As the ship exited hyperspace, however, her attention was immediately drawn to the viewport. Her breath held a moment as she surveyed the scene outside.
A great, metallic wheel orbited over a gas giant covered in swirling green clouds, and was bathed in the mysterious light of a blue giant star. Soon the wheel's nature became more evident: it was a space station, on a scale the Cerean had never before seen. The inner edge of the wheel was an elongated transparasteel dome through which Maleine could make out cityscapes. Transparasteel spokes connected the wheel to a spire-like hub out of which a steady stream of spaceships departed and into which they arrived. A number of sizable military platforms surrounded the spacestation protectively, accompanied by a fleet of capital ships.
This was New Bethrezen, the Obsidian Union's secret capital. It hardly matched the mental image Maleine had constructed based on what little was known of New Bethrezen in GA space. She had imagined a city carved into the rock of some isolated planet or perhaps built on the foundations of an ancient Sith stronghold on a forgotten world. Instead she beheld something that might well deserve to be listed among the Galaxy's wonders.
And her amazement only increased as she continued onwards. Landing in the central spaceport, Maleine stepped aboard a large inclinator which gradually lowered her and the other passengers down one of the spokes, incrementally changing their position to account for the opposite directions of artificial gravity the port and city used. At the inclinator station she was met by a fair haired, gaunt man who told her he would take her to her new master, Lady Kalma, and identified himself only as Achason.
As this man conveyed her through New Bethrezen aboard a landspeeder, the Sith Apprentice was left to marvel at the station's interior. It was almost a miniature planet contained within a durasteel frame. The terrain varied from heavily urbanized to almost bucolic, with actual clouds evident in the artificial atmosphere. Massive UV lamps above gave a convincing impression of yellow sunlight; as the Cerean spent more time on the station she would discover these lights dimmed and brightened in a night/day cycle.
Eventually the speeder began to approach a peculiar looking section of the city. While some of the districts she'd previously seen had been lush with vegetation, the one they were heading towards was truly overgrown. Vines covered buildings that looked abandoned and ruined. The roads into this strange cluster of several blocks were gated off and guarded by men in uniforms with blasters. When these men saw that Achason was piloting the approaching vehicle they opened the gate for him.
The journey to the center of this out-of-place jungle was almost dreamlike. The Cerean heard cries of wild beasts and saw movement in dark corners as they proceeded. Eventually Achason brought the speeder to Darth Maleine's destination: a ruined palace in the verdant heart of the area. In his apparently typical stand-offish silence, the man led Maleine through the manor's halls which were well into the process of being claimed by the aggressive plant life. At length she was brought to what must have once been an orderly courtyard but was now only distinguishable by its total lack of ceiling.
From a patch of darkness a figure emerged sinuously. The woman had dark hair along with a face that was unusually wan and angular; on her hips hung a pair of subtly curved swords. As the Cerean's gaze met the woman's intense eyes, the former concluded that the latter must be Lady Kalma.
"So, this is what Aristo sends me," Kalma commented flatly, neither her expression nor tone revealing the intent of the statement, "Tell me, do you know what this building is?"
The sentinel was at a loss of words, the place she now stood in was quite similar to the way Cerea looked outside of the cities. She stood in the middle of the growth with her favored weapons on her belt and her bone dagger in her boot while her mace was packed away in her bag. Maleine could tell this place hid unknown dangers but she also had a feeling that she would learn to love the jungled landscape.
Darth Maleine kept eye contact with Lady Kalma despite her fierce eyes. She didn't even take time to think about the answer to Lady Kalma's question, the Cerean did not know the answer so she simply answered with what she could.
"No, no I do not know what the building is," Maleine said softly and thought to herself but she would soon would learn, if Lady Kalma was like Aristo she would like to explain things in detail.
"This place was once known as House Sentia," Kalma explained in her hushed, smooth voice, "It was the seat of Lady Vidia, one of the Brotherhood's most powerful. But she betrayed the Sith and payed for this folly with her life. The Dark Lord gave her palace to we Witches of the Sith and our deep connection with the Living Darkness brought this transformation about. Even in New Bethrezen, an entirely artificial environment, the presence of our power unleashes the inherent wildness of nature. The city administrators have done their all to contain this growth after it overcame the surrounding neighborhood but it is held back only by our will not their crude methods. Those living nearby rightly fear this place and its beasts. Their fear comes from knowing the true danger of the mighty power a Dark Side Witch wields. You are here so that the Living Darkness may speak to you, should you prove worthy. First though, you will demonstrate for me the Force Powers in which you've already been trained."
The Cerean's brain absorbed every word her new master spoke as her voice was an interesting one and the concept of Dark Side Witches had fascinated her since she had heard of them in her recovery bed. Now Maleine was ecstatic to discover that she would be getting trained as a witch.
Now to the current problem, Darth Maleine hadn't been trained in many Force Powers yet. All she knew was Force Leap, Force Speed, and Tapas and only the first two of those could be shown in the current standings. Maleine could tell Darth Aristo's type of training would not be present here, Aristo would have engaged her in combat to get her to use Force Powers; therefore, she only knew how to show off her powers in combat. With no idea on how else to show off her ability she drew her rapier, and waited to see if Lady Kalma drew her own peculiar blade. The apprentice had no idea how Kalma would react to trainee attacking her, she knew Aristo was an aggressive man but Lady Kalma seemed much different and calmer than the veteran Darth Aristo.
"I have mainly been trained to use my powers offensively m'lady, Aristo wasn't much for teaching me much else, I hope you don't mind to spar." Without further notice Maleine leaped at her master with the aid of the Force and held her blade out, ready to deflect any attacks her foe might swing at her.
A burst of Force Speed, on the level of what Maleine could now summon after her training in Bast, moved Kalma to the left of the Sith Apprentice's attack.
"A Marauder only teaching through combat, how unexpected," the Sith woman commented as she drew her blades, her cold monotone almost burying the sarcasm. Holding the swords in reverse grips, Kalma scythed her left-hand blade up towards Maleine's extended sword arm and the other weapon horizontally towards the Cerean's midsection.
Darth Maleine couldn't step back out of the Witch's swings quick enough so she instead Force leaped backwards, disengaging from the fight for a a brief second. As soon as the Sith Apprentice's foot hit the ground she jumped forward at her foe with her blade held out horizontally triggering her Force Speed.
With her new speed Maleine was able to keep up with her master. The sentinel parried any swing that Lady Kalma threw her way as Darth Maleine leaped towards her. When she got the chance to make attacks of her own she made a quick succession flicks of her wrist twisting her rapier's blade around Kalma's swords she attempted to cut open Kalma's arms around the shoulder area.
Unfortunately for Maleine, the peculiar curve of Kalma's longswords proved to be an obstacle to the Sith Apprentice's relentless thrusts. Each time the Cerean attempted to twist her blade around the Witch's guard, the back-curving tip of the longswords allowed Kalma to push the attacks off-trajectory. With a flick of her left index and middle fingers, the pale woman sent her new Apprentice flying backwards into a wall with Force Push.
The resilient sentinel bounced off the wall like a rag doll, landing on her feet after she fell from the rugged surface. Darth Maleine met the Witch's eyes before she reached down to her 'saber, pulled it out of its clip, and ignighted the blade. This was followed by her newly learned from, Makashi.
Still wielding her rapier, Maleine walked to Lady Kalma with her lightsaber held back, ready to block if such a situation raised, which it surely would. On the other hand, her right hand, with the rapier, was offensive and quickly jabbing around her blades in quick swings and stabs directed for non lethal areas such as her arms, legs, and sides.
As Darth Maleine fought her new opponent she Payed attention to the way Kalma held her blades. She had never encountered someone who fought like Lady Kalma did; however, she was determined to find a hole in the Witch's form.
Darth Maleine issued her first jab towards Kalma, the Dark Side Witch sank to the side and adroitly slid her blade across Maleine's to hook the curving tip of her left sword into one of the negative spaces between the rapier's guard. With a flick of the wrist, Maleine's weapon was pulled from her hand and went flying. As Kalma pressed her right blade against Maleine's lightsaber to check it, she brought her left's edge to rest harmlessly but poised to cut across the Cerean's throat. An inclining of the Sith Knight's head instructed her apprentice to deactivate her lightsaber. Once Maleine had done so Kalma sheathed her swords, taking a step and a half backwards.
"You didn't use the Force much," Lady Kalma noted, "Those can't be all the Force Powers you know, can they?"
Darth Ares: Don't forget to watch the original Clone Wars by Genndy Tartakovsky though, it's incredible and it's also the only Star Wars media where Grievous isn't a punk bitch
