Aristo blinked lazily once "Well Darling.." he shook his head "Apologies, Daala, must remember not too get those two words confused. I'm afraid that I dont believe that your influence over the Empire amounts to a hill of beans, though I concede I could be wrong, after all you used to be one of them, and led them to many glorious...defeats. At the hands of the Jedi. If you couldnt defeat those spineless milksops, how you think you will fare any better against Sith who dont share their lily livered limitations I dont know. So if you wish to avoid the needless effusion of Imperial blood I would suggest you urge them to surrender."

Corrin, as was the case with many Union Sith, saw the benefits of safety over comfortable tradition. To this, he discarded the trappings of his robes, wearing instead the atmosphere-controlled, thermal retention flightsuit of a TIE Fighter Pilot. Loathe as he was to remove his mask, he did so, baring his heavily-disfigured face, blinking at the fellow who'd approached him, clearly undaunted by his frightening appearance.
"Your tact and will shall not be ignored Airman Faust. Serve well in the skies today, and you shall be rewarded," Corrin began, taking a brief, but heated moment to address all present pilots, regardless of their places in their plans, "all of you. Men, women of the Obsidian Union. Our enemy stands in the way of glory, justice and freedom. Serve our Dark Lord, serve your Navy, and serve yourselves! Victory shall be ours, and your rewards shall be bountiful!"
The Dark Lord noted the advancing fleet entering formations, even as he spoke. He likewise gave an order shortly after the ultimatum was delivered but not before giving Turr Phennir a chance to change his mind first before his possible death...if the Force dictated such a thing happen. He noted that there were six star destroyers in three wedges and two in reserve, with one unaccounted for. He would be wary of that particular formation in case it decided to surprise him later.
''Turr Phennir himself? I am honored....your reputation precedes you General. You are a smart man to not show your face. But you are mistaken if you think I would do such a thing, I am unlike alot of my other brethren and will not stoop to such a level as to use such tricks upon you. Even if I could if I so wished it. And likewise I too may get distracted during the fighting. As such I offer a counter proposal, turn back now and I offer free passage back to Coruscant for you and your men, un-harassed. Or if you and your men so wish it I offer a chance to join us, we could always use good men like you and others like you. It would be a shame to waste such potential when it has yet to be fully utilized. I offer 20 seconds within which to comply after which there shall be no turning back from this current course of action. You have been warned General, have a good day and may the Force guide you to accept this offer. I strongly urge you to consider the latter and not become just another forgotten soul of war.''
While he waited an answer Lucifer turned to the com station. He let a slight smile creep across his lip, the imperials were arrogant to think they could win this fight. He could see their ego on full display here in the formations and numbers. Although they had superior numbers they lacked superior firepower, fire power the Union had in spades. It would be a slaughter in the Union's favor so long as they were careful and properly utilized the fleet to it's full advantage. Feeling the Force he had a good feeling about the battle.
Thinking upon a strategy, he planned it in his head. First he would consolidate all of his forces instead of spreading them all out into a tortoise shell like formation, with his flagship in the center mass and the Ascendency-Class at the rear of the pack. He remembered he would need to assign some heavy hitters, with capital ships and defense to the Ascendancy as to protect it while it fired during the fighting. It afterall was vulnerable to counters. ...using the area around him...remembering space was 3D and would utilize every angle he could to accomplish this.
He also knew there was going to be a crossfire situation on his hands until the fleet broke up some of those enemy formations, but this did tip to his advantage in general in regards to the flagship defense. He needed first to keep fighters close, to run interference with the enemies own fighters and small craft. He didn't want fighting going on in between the ships in formation, what with friendly fire becoming a issue at such ranges. If he could get a few expendable ships in between their formations to muck things up a little bit he figured the fleet might be in good shape, but he doubted anyone was going to have the foresight to stop shooting at a ship that happened to be directly in front of a friendly, regardless of the threat of hitting them or not.
He needed a healthy bit of space as well between the ships in formation so that the flagship could aim and fire between them at enemy capital ships, but he didn't want them to be so far apart that they couldn't soak hits for him.
Looking out he noted he needed to deal with their smaller, anti-fighter roles first to get rid of what he assumed to be the bulk of their forces, and leave the capital ships for last, but that would in turn be a risk. And leave the Union fleet susceptible to taking hits from them throughout the combat. Yet the alternative was if he let his own smaller vessels take care of their smaller vessels and let the capital ships duke it out with theirs...his would probably take a little less damage in the long run, but that would mean the Union fighters wouldn't be as efficient, and it might end up dragging things out. He decided upon the latter, the risk of taking out the anti-fighter roles first to get rid of what he the bulk of their forces, and leave the capital ships for last. If they became a problem he would improvise and adapt. He decided he would try to take out their Anti-Starfighter compliment with mostly everything outside of his really big capital ships, and focus fire on one enemy capital ship at a time with the closest heavy hitters and the flagship when possible between the anti-starfighter assault.
He decided upon assigning everything but his really heavy hitting ships to putting fire on their light ships. If something started taking too much damage, he would pull it behind the shield and cover it with another ship or two. Besides he could also assist along the way with his Force abilities where necessary. He was a Force-User afterall...and not just any old Force-User, he was the Dark Lord himself. The Sith looked to him for guidance, he would not disappoint them.
''Captain Kwyntehst, I have your orders should he not comply. Inform the fleet to consolidate all our forces. Shell formation (think tortoise like shell), bring this ship to the center mass and place the Ascendancy-Class God's Message to the rear of our formation. Assign some heavy hitters, with capital ships and defense to the Ascendancy but make sure we got enough left to defend ourselves and maintain a effective force. Make sure we got a healthy bit of space as well between the ships in formation so that this ship can aim and fire between at enemy capital ships, but not so far apart as that other ships can't take hits for us.
Inform Darth Corrin to keep his fighters close and to run interference with the enemies own fighters and small craft. We don't want fighting going on in between the ships in our own formation. Focus all firepower on the enemy Anti-Starfighter compliment with mostly everything outside of our really big capital ships, and focus fire on one enemy capital ship at a time with the closest heavy hitters and this flagship when possible Captain during the anti-starfighter assault.
Once the anti-starfighter problem is dealt with we can then utilize our bombers and ships to bomb the hell outta them.''
Pausing he continued ''Assign everything but our really heavy hitting ships to putting fire on their light ships once the attack begins in earnest. If something starts taking too much damage, pull it behind the shield and cover it with another ship or two. I'll assist where I can with my abilities. We have the superior firepower let's use it if necessary and show the Imperial Remnant just why they should fear the Obsidian Union and the Sith Brotherhood. Let us sear a memory so severe and so deep into their memories they would never again dare to come to Vjun for fear of what wrath they might wrought from us.''
Inside his mind he thought upon the coming events. This would mark the beginning, the true start of the war. One thought only crossed his mind at that moment of realization. So It Begins.
As he faced Darth Aristo, Velas Perkunas was evidently listening intently. He was as focused as a cat upon a mouse. Nodding as he received his instructions, the human male bowed in reverence deeply before making for point Dorn as instructed. He could only dream of being like the man that had stood before him. Power and Respect both all in the grasp of his hands.
As he arrived, Velas issued the instructions he was given to the forces under his command.
''We have our orders people. Lord Aristo has a specific plan in mind...I suggest you follow it to the letter, or suffer my wrath. Emplace our forces so that most are hidden. Allow the GA to see only a weak defensive line at the center. When the Imperial Remnant filth attack, retreat as though in panic.'' He noted the look of worry and surprise on their faces ''It's not how it sounds. Retreat to prepared positions roughly here..." his finger hovered over the same good spot Aristo had noted earlier, pointing on the map they were given.
''Have more of our forces already there, lying in wait. Hide the rest on our flanks. As the GA advance, bring the flanking forces around behind the enemy and envelop them like ants upon a leaf. Crush them into pieces, I shall assist. Now unless you want to find out what a angry Disciple is like I suggest you move it people.'' He said before moving himself with saber in hand to his assigned position.
"Ah, the famous "no you" diplomacy of the Sith," Phennir replied, sounding amused. "Has it ever worked? Your twenty seconds of consideration are generous but unnecessary - I am here to destroy you, and I'm quite grateful you didn't surrender and rob me of that opportunity. It's time you terrorists learned how the Empire deals with rebellions."
There was static as the line went dead, and the Union defenders quickly began rearranging their fleet according to Lucifer's instruction. Likewise, the Imperial formations established themselves and moved into position - the three battlegroups, each anchored around six ISDs, separated and moved in on the Union fleet from the different vectors. The central battlegroup remained where it was, moving directly forward to face the Union fleet head on and trailing the two reserve Star Destroyers - the other two groups of warships approached on an arc, measured roughly 60 degrees each from the Union fleet's axial reference line.
As these moved into place, another, smaller group of vessels broke away from one of the battlegroups and charged directly towards the Union lines: a trio of Imperial Dreadnaughts and a pair of Lancer-class frigates shielding an armada of dropships and troop transports. Taking advantage of the Union fleet's reorganization, they pushed straight past the Union's main battle line and relied on the heavy shields and armour of the Dreadnaughts to absorb the scattered fire from the Union fleet as they pushed for the planet's surface. A few lucky shots blew away landing craft, but they did little to diminish the number that rocketed into the atmosphere and down towards Vjun.
Meanwhile, each battlegroup stopped just inside the effective weapons range of their Dreadnaughts and Star Destroyers and clustered into tight formations, overlapping the shields of their Star Destroyers and Dreadnaughts and nestling the weaker ships well within these protective umbrellas. The Union defenders were just finishing reorganizing themselves as the Imperial forces opened fire, volleys of concussion missiles preceding the withering storms of turbolaser fire their capital ships were famous for. Targeting the Union fleet's picket line, they began stripping away at the shields and armour of the weaker vessels - frigates and gunships - that rimmed the Union fleet.
Accompanied by his new wingman, Darth Corrin shot out of one of the Arkadia's many hangars. He had been given command over Righteous wing, a grouping of three of the Arkadia's starfighter squadrons, consisting of two TIE/XA shielded interceptor models and a squadron of Scimitar assault bombers. Though the squadron leaders had their own standing objectives and goals, Corrin as their overall commander could override them as he saw necessary. Streaking through the armada of Union vessels alongside a hundred other starfighters, he heard orders come in from the fleet's starfighter command.
"Arkadia fighter wings, target the Imperial landing fleet. Repeat, primary target is the Imperial landing fleet."
Checking his scopes, Corrin confirmed the danger of their target - while the Imperial Dreadnaughts weren't much of a threat to the nimble starfighters, the Lancer-class frigates were a deadly foe to any model of starfighter and would easily rip the slower bombers to shreds.
Aristo could see Daala suppress a snarl at the word 'darling', but she kept her composure otherwise cool and collected. "My advisors urged me not to waste time with this call," she replied. "But I had hoped to appeal to your basic decency to spare the lives of your men. Whatever happens next, let it be on your own head - neither the Empire nor Alliance will accept less than total surrender now that you've insulted our attempts at mercy so thoroughly."
The countenance of her steely glare vanished a moment after her theatrical declaration had been made. Meanwhile, on Coruscant, the Chief of State turned to the recording crew nearby. "You got all of that? Good. I want it edited and on the holonet by tomorrow morning."
With all business in the briefing room concluded its occupants raced to their respective positions. Maleine and Aras took a turbolift down to the castle's bowels, where they boarded a tram that took them rapidly past massive blast doors and out of the castle into the sickly daylight. Passing the castle's great sea guns, they stepped off the tram halfway to the landing field and took a waiting landspeeder the rest of the way. Running most of the way between Bast Castle and the landing field was a thin but long strip of beach, along which were positioned a few small docks and maritime facilities for the few times the Castle's occupants needed to brave the planet's acidic oceans. Racing along the ridge above the beach, the Dark Siders could see that it had been heavily fortified with mounted laser cannons and duracrete troop emplacements.
Entering the command center at the main dockyard, they were greeted by the Zabrak Major in charge of the region's troops, Hao'Dan.
"Lady Sith, my lord disciple," he greeted, relieved to see them. "You're just in time. One of our the sea guns has gone silent. Here-" He lead them to a map and indicated the sea gun at the far end of the beach, near the landing field. "They stopped responding to our communications half an hour ago. I sent an assault team to check it out - they went quiet too, about ten minutes ago. Imperial forces are entering the atmosphere as we speak - we need that sea gun operational, Please, I need you to get over there and find out what's going on. We can't cover the whole sea approach with that gun offline."
Meanwhile, a dropship ferried Veles north-east to the rivers and ponds of point Dorn. He wasted no time after his arrival, giving orders immediately and watching as the few-hundred Union troopers assigned to the position hurriedly carried them out. A few dozen troops positioned themselves across either side of the river at a point where the valley narrowed, an obvious and predictable chokepoint - the rest rapidly reinforced the positions Aristo had decided on at the castle, setting up cover, explosives, and a few laser cannons. The remainder positioned themselves in narrow gulleys and ravines splitting off of the main valley, a few aboard speederbikes to wreak havoc on the enemy line.
It would be Veles' decision when to command the first line to retreat, when to bring in the flanking forces, and when to have the fortified positions reveal themselves and open fire.
As the troopers finished getting into position, Veles heard series of thunderous rumbles from high above, and looked up to see the sky blacken with Imperial landing vessels. As expected, a number broke off and disappeared out of sight somewhere further up the valley. Soon, the first challenge to Veles and his fighters came in the form of a trio of scout troopers, zipping along the valley aboard speederbikes to probe ahead of the Imperial assault force. Riding up the acidic river, they pulled onto land when they spotted the first line and opened fire with their speederbikes' blaster cannons, two attacking the troops on one bank whilst the other waited until he had passed them to swing onto the bank and harass them from behind.
Aboard another dropship, Mara Adan was transported to point Besh just as the Imperial landing armada broke through the atmosphere. There she linked up with the frontline defenders - lines of trenches and turrets, with a half-dozen TX-130T fighter tanks, a trio of 2-M saber tanks towards the rear and a few troop transports waiting to help with the retreat to the next line. Adan recalled what she had been told in the briefing - the bulk of the Imperial force was expected to challenge them here, and rather than dig in and try to fight them off the Unionists would bleed them as much as they could before falling back to the next defensive line and joining the fresh defenders there, all the way to the Castle if needed.
It wasn't long before the Imperial army arrived. A dozen swoop bikes came first, using their speed and mobility to dodge blaster fire while firing on the turrets and trenches using their blaster cannons. Shortly after a squadron of repulsortanks arrived, with squads of Imperial army troopers and a few Stormtroopers riding atop them. Opening fire from a distance, the tanks targeted the blaster turrets as the Imperial soldiers leapt from the tanks and raced forward, charging the trenches and leaping in to engage the Union soldiers in close-range combat.
Watching from atop a ridge, Mara Adan had a number of options available - attacking the Imperial forces from afar with her magic, running down to fight them head-on, trying to slip behind the Imperial walkers to flank them from the rear, or staying at a distance and attempting to command the local Union troopers. A half-squad of Union heavy infantry was also with her.
Aristo's personal shuttle ferried him to point Aurek, in the center of Vjun's defensive network. The soldiers there saluted as he arrived, and he entered the makeshift command center that had already been set-up.
"Lord Aristo," a Captain greeted him. "Imperial forces have landed and are assaulting points Besh and Dorn - sensors detected Imperial landers further up the coast and we believe a seaborne attack on point Cresh is forthcoming. A token force has landed a kilometer from our position - scouts report AT-PTs and tanks with a hundred infantrymen. Our anti-air guns succeeded in shooting down a few troop transports, but most used the valleys for cover - more are still arriving from orbit. Have you any orders, sir, or shall we engage the nearby Imperial force?"

"Well, then, unless the Lady objects, we should move immediately." Aras' near-permanently grey feathers had just a hint of green to them as he looked to Maleine. Difficult as the disciple was to read, it was clear that she had the final say.
"Arkadia wing reporting in - requesting cover fire on Lancer-class vessels. All squadrons will engage enemy dropships and Dreadnaughts once our lines are clear," Corrin rattled off, drawing his fighter to the head of Arkadia wing, resolute and sure of victory with a well-coordinated strike. Under potential cover of turbolaser fire on the larger targets, the squadrons would pass right through the middle, decimating the lines of dropships, taking on the larger assault warships at their relative leisure. After that, was anyone's guess.
Mara took to the front of the troops she was given command to lead. There was a slight ridge she leapt to, in order to get an improved vantage point of her adversaries. Of the Dark Side, she revelled and relished in her power; of the Echani, she was cold and precise, her skills in hand-to-hand rivalling that of the most skilled warriors in the galaxy. Then again, a few waves of her hand and she could freeze the battlefield or scorch it.
It was then the battle picked up, as Imperial forces began their aggressive assault. Immediately, she cast her hand out across the battlefield, a wave of fire crossing over the charging front lines of Imperial troopers. "Heavy troopers, focus fire on the centre with suppressive fire," Mara said on the radio, gruff and authoritative. "Half of the armoured contingent, act as artillery bursts to force the lines to slow their advances, but be sure to remain far enough to avoid direct targeting from anti-tank fire." She ignited her lightsaber and started deflecting blaster fire, moving through the flurry of fire with bullet-time accuracy before hopping off the ridge.
"Turret operators, keep your fire forward!" she roared into the radio as she moved into combat, picking off what scouts on swoop bikes she could to slow them down. "Rear guard, finish off the swoop bikes; aim for the bikes if you have to! Do not let any of the Imperials get through to the secondary rear line, no matter what! For the Brotherhood!"
Mara continued to deflect blaster fire, as close to reflecting it back at the Imperial troopers. She targeted the tanks with both fire and ice, many tanks pierced through the centre with pillars of ice as the tank commanders burned.
The Dark Lord watched as the Imperial formations established themselves and moved into position - three battlegroups, each anchored around six ISDs that seemed to separate and move in on the Union fleet from different vectors. The central battlegroup he noted, remained where it was, moving directly forward to face the Union fleet and trailed the two reserve Star Destroyers - the other two groups of warships approached he saw were on an arc, measured roughly 60 degrees each from the Union fleet's axial reference line.
As each battlegroup stopped just inside the effective weapons range of their Dreadnaughts and Star Destroyers and clustered into tight formations, overlapping the shields of their Star Destroyers and Dreadnaughts and nestling the weaker ships well within these protective umbrellas he cursed his luck. But also admired the tactics at play. As the Union lines finished organizing he felt the first hit. The Imperial forces had opened fire, volleys of concussion missiles preceded the storm of turbolaser fire. Targeting the Union fleet's picket line, stripping away at the shields and armour of the weaker vessels - frigates and gunships - that rimmed the Union fleet. Once shields were raised he observed the battle.
Yet despite this he remained calm. Giving a order, he let the battle play out, noting the tight formations...formations that could be used to his advantage.
''Have the Ascendancy Class and our hard hitters target the closest battlegroup in range..target the Dreadnaught's and Destroyers first, and bring the weaker ships on our rim behind our shield wall. Make the battlegroups cluster and push the ships in the formation closer together...such tight formations are to our advantage, where possible assist with cover fire on the Lancer-class vessels to allow Darth Corrin some leg room. You have the bridge captain for the moment, I'll be be present but occupied, I need full concentration within the Force to bolster our morale and lower theirs. Inform Darth Corrin his support is incoming momentarily.''
With that the Dark Lord, took a seat, cross-legged upon the captain's chair. Here he focused...in the Force he could feel the swirl of the battle. And in that momentum he willed it to aid his cause in the form of Battle Meditation.
Veles noted the trio of scout troopers, zipping along the valley aboard speederbikes. As they opened fire when they pulled onto land when and spotted the first line, his gaze followed the two attacking the bank for a moment before diverting to the third speederbike. He gave the order to those with him at the current time.
''Keep them distracted, I'll take the one at our rear for the moment.''
With that he used Telekinesis, waiting until he came about again for another pass...then grabbing the speederbike he swung it enough that he hoped it landed in the river. Or at very least sent it spiralling out of control, when he was certain that was done he turned to the other two, attempting to do the same to them.
Aristo turned a glacial face towards the captain "Crush them Captain. Crush them utterly. Here we hold the line. HERE they dont get through. We do not retreat, we do not surrender. We win or we die. Have as many PLX rockets issued as possible. I want to stop their armour here. Stop it and burn it."
