Lucifer reacted quickly the moment the switch turned red for the final time. He had a sneaking suspicion something like this might happen...experience had taught him so far everything had been too simple. On Xaos instructions he set to work, his sabre quickly finding purchase in his hand before the Massassi moved to confront the two droids to his front.
He decided to use his sabre to deflect the staff away from the first one before zapping it with a lightning discharge that would hopefully hit both droids and render them disabled.
Like Xaos, Im going to express my movement on a grid system to avoid having to edit pictures and upload them over and over. It makes sense. Lucifer begins in column 7, row 7; he takes a move action to column 7, row 9.
Quick Drawing my lightsaber as my Swift Action if I can, not entirely sure how this works.
Next action is a attempted parry and deflection when next to Droid #5 before trying to catch both in the radius of the Lightning discharge from his free hand as my standard action.
Lord Of War Dark Lord/First Consul Of The New Sith Brotherhood War Minister Of The Sith Empire
'' 'Evil' is a word used by the ignorant and the weak. The darkside is about survival, it's about unleashing your inner power. It glorifies the strength of the individual.'' - Darth Lucifer
Following Xaos' lead, Darth Lucifer moved swiftly forward and raised his hand to blast the two droids closest to him with Lightning. Unfortunately, a weird quirk of the freezing process chose that moment to rear its head - the flow of the Force always took a short time to return to him fully whenever he awoke from a slumber, and in this instance choked within him and sputtered without an attack. Attempting to seize the advantage, the MagnaGuard right in front of him spun its Electrostaff and swung it at Lucifer, which the Red Warrior deflected with ease and used the opening to slash through part of the droid's body, damaging a servomotor cluster in the process. Its partner MagnaGuard tried to flank Lucifer, but its own attack was likewise easily intercepted by his skillful technique.
Xaos' assessment of the droid's tactics was proven correct when two of them attempted to flank him and attack. Prepared for this, the Dark Lord expertly blocked the first attack with his blade and deftly riposted to score a respectable hit against the attacker's torso. Observing the other MagnaGuard whirling its staff towards him, he shifted his footing slightly and then narrowly but elegantly dodged its attack.
At Xaos' back, Reaver found himself confronted by a MagnaGuard of his own, which clomped menacingly towards him while spinning its weapon before it attempted to bury the buzzing end in his chest. Unfortunately for it Reaver saw this coming, and neatly sidestepped the thrust.
Before I dive in, Luc, just to clear up on Parry/Deflection, Block (aka Parry) is used for melee weapons and Deflection for ranged weapons. They're both Reactions - essentially you declare them ahead of time if you're expecting them to happen (like Xaos) or in response to somebody else's post (say I posted a droid attacked you, you could post again before anybody else did to say you used your Reaction to Block his attack and counterattack with the Riposte action). Just for the purposes of writing this post asap I'm going to assume you're taking the same approach as Xaos - that you'll attempt to Block and Riposte the first person who attacks you. Please let me know if this isn't what you meant and I'll edit immediately. Drawing a Weapon is also normally a Move action, but as it's the start of combat I'm going to treat it as a Swift Action*.
Luc moves to the stated position and uses the Force Lightning Power. Because he wants to target both droids, he needs to use the Special ability of Force Lightning to increase its area of damage - this would normally need a Force Boon as a 'power-up', but we're not going to bother counting them for this encounter. Luc makes a Force Lightning check (+11):
g5V5r4nsp_1d20+11Ugh, Luc my friend, you have the honour of having the first natural 1 of the site. Bad luck! The Force Power just fizzles and fails.
MagnaGuard 5 is first. MagnaGuard 5 is going to attack Lucifer with its Electrostaff. p_1d20+8. As I mentioned above, I'm interpreting it as Lucifer attempts to Block and Riposte and is using the Juyo Form. Rolls at +23 (jfc, and I may have missed something). p_1d20+23 No sells the attack completely, rolls again for the Riposte. p_1d20+25Crushes the MagnaGuard's Reflex save, rolls lightsaber damage at 2d8+10: p_2d8+10Deals 19 damage, MagnaGuard 5 loses 19 HP and is knocked one step down the Condition Track. It is now at -1 to all Saves and checks.
MagnaGuard 3 is next. He uses his whole Move action to move to Column 4, Row 7 (beside Xaos) and attacks Xaos with its Electrostaff. Rolls: p_1d20+8 Xaos uses the Block Reaction on the droid with his Makashi score, rolls at +21: p_1d20+21Blasts it. Xaos already rolled his Riposte** as 43 (fuck lol) and succeeds, dealing 18 damage. The MagnaGuard loses 18 HP.
MagnaGuard 4 is next. He moves one over to Row 7, Column 11. He attacks Lucifer with his Electrostaff: p_1d20+8Misses.
MagnaGuard 2 is next. He moves to Row 5, Column 8, and attacks Xaos with his Electrostaff: p_1d20+3. Miss. Xaos also still has a dodge bonus against MagnaGuard 2.
MagnaGuard 6 brings up the end. He moves to Row 5, Column 5, and attacks Reaver with his Electrostaff: p_1d20+8He also misses.
Reaver is next.
Initiative Order: 1. Xaos 2. Lucifer 3. MagnaGuard 5 4. MagnaGuard 3 6. MagnaGuard 4 7. MagnaGuard 2 8. MagnaGuard 6 9. Reaver is next 10. Tora 11. MagnaGuard 1
* GM's note: The rules in general say 'it's a Move Action', but I'm assuming that's in the middle of combat when you are putting away one weapon to get another, so a Swift action to just draw at the start of combat seems reasonable. **GM's note: The rules as written have two separate rolls for Block and then Riposte (which I used in this post), but I think a better way to do it is just to have the one roll count for both the Block and the Riposte? That seems to be how it was read anyway, which suggests it's better!
Reaver slipped nimbly around the MagnaGuard challenging him, easily avoiding a quick swipe from one of the others that thought it could strike at his back. Drawing his lightsaber, Reaver thrust it into the MagnaGuard and was rewarded with a sizzle of sparks as it penetrated the droid's chassis. Unperturbed, the combat droid continued its movements.
Tora, meanwhile, was the last to act, having watched everything go on before he finally reached for a weapon that wasn't there. Cursing, he shot a venomous glance at the Red Warrior who had relieved him of his blaster and knife, and instead broke in to a run away from the combat area.
Reaver moves behind MagnaGuard 6. Because he's leaving the area that MagnaGuard 3 can hit him in, he provokes an attack of opportunity from MagnaGuard 3, which uses its Reaction to take it:
Y8152HhWp_1d20+8, miss. Reaver makes an attack against MagnaGuard 6, I am assuming he's using Niman: p_1d20+19 Easy hit, deals p_2d8+9damage.
Tora is next. Tora hasn't got a weapon, so he's going to use his Move action to book it to the edge of the map and hold there. MagnaGuard 1 is out of the picture so the round is over, it is now Xaos' turn again.
1. Xaos is next. 2. Lucifer 3. MagnaGuard 5 4. MagnaGuard 3 6. MagnaGuard 4 7. MagnaGuard 2 8. MagnaGuard 6 9. Reaver is next 10. Tora 11. MagnaGuard 1
Changing my Dodge bonus from MagnaGuard #2 to MagnaGuard#3
Using a move action to activate the Assault Tactics Perk targeting MagnaGuard #2, requiring a Knowledge Tactics roll.
|dE0cqcxp_1d20 + 3 Int + 12 total multiplier = 33, more than double what I needed. Until my next turn, attacks against MagnaGuard#2 deal an extra d6.
Rolling for Force Push against MagnaGuard #2 (reducing Force Well from 204 to 184), spending a Force Boon to add d8 to the roll, pushing the droid straight away from me.
p_1d20 + p_1d8 p_1d8p_1d8 6 best Force Boon roll + 3 Spr + 12 total multiplier = 27
If the MagnaGuard fails to resist the push them I'm using my reaction to make an opportunity attack, if this hits then, due to my Sentinel Perk, the MagnaGuard's movement will be reduced to 0 its next turn. p_1d20 Err, so, I'm gonna request that, since the Push worked in the scenario I'm making this roll for, could I have Advantage on this roll since it's hard to defend yourself if flying though the air? If not, that's cool, but if so, here's my other d20 roll for the attack. p_1d20 + 16 total multiplier + 3 Spirit + 2 Dueling II = 40, wow that's like night and day.
Raising his hand, Xaos flung the MagnaGuard away with a weighty Force Push. His lightsaber slashed through the war machine as it was tossed away and sliced neatly through a subsystem cluster, and the droid terminated its flight abruptly by smashing into the security shutter and crumpling. Its photoreceptors flickered and it was clear the droid could and would keep fighting, but it took its time getting back to its footing.
XVVcxGpWp_1d20+1Loses by 14 points and is thrown back by 3 squares, into the security shutter. This security shutter is secured, so I'm ruling the droid takes collision damage equal to 1d6. p_1d6 A low roll that benefits the droids! As I have agreed on the Advantage* in the cbox on the basis of this being the tutorial, the droid takes total 23 damage total and moves -1 step on the condition track.
1. Xaos 2. Lucifer is next 3. MagnaGuard 5 4. MagnaGuard 3 6. MagnaGuard 4 7. MagnaGuard 2 8. MagnaGuard 6 9. Reaver is next 10. Tora 11. MagnaGuard 1
Lucifer reacted quickly as instructed, he soon realised as much as the Dark Lord may have wanted to have the droids disabled if possible, in this instance the possibility of that happening was rather slim. They simply had not the time for such niceties. Lucifer responded in kind to Xaos suggestion and suspicions, he likewise felt the same way.
"I agree with your assessment and as much as we may want to save these droids,I don't it's entirely possible at the moment. A shame, but such niceties cannot be afforded right now. And I share your concerns Dark Lord, something is definitely not right here and I intend to get to the bottom of it. Under the circumstances I'll see about the return of Tora's blaster and knife after I'm done with these two walking tin cans."
The first action he took was aimed against Droid #5 via the use of raising his hand and issuing a Force Push intending to drive him back into the door behind him, and hopefully stumble or destroy it, allowing for a follow through with a planned parry towards Droid #4 who would no doubt attempt to strike at him while he was engaged.
The weight of Lucifer's Force Push crumpled the MagnaGuard against the solid door behind it, bending servos and metal. Relentlessly, the droid arose and attacked him again, but with contemptuous ease Lucifer blocked the attack and countered one one of his own that carved deep through the droid. Sparking and sputtering, the MagnaGuard nonetheless remained standing, though it was clearly on its last legs.
Xaos was temporarily left confronted by only one MagnaGuard. Again it spun to attack, but its movements where a pale imitation of Grievous' own fighting style and Xaos easily avoided its strike. The MagnaGuard Xaos had slammed against the security shutter likewise untangled its limbs and rose. Out of attack range of everyone, it instead moved back up to threaten Xaos.
The second MagnaGuard challenging the Red Warrior used his momentary distraction to move directly behind and flank him. Whatever tactical advantage it thought it would gain from surrounding him quickly turned out to be non-existent, as Lucifer's lightsaber continued its journey from one MagnaGuard to effortlessly intercept the strike of the second without even needing to turn around.
Reaver's own MagnaGuard was also presenting him little challenge, the whirling of its staff easily telegraphed and avoided or blocked by the Sith Lord's blade.
Luc makes a Force Push check opposed by MagnaGuard 4's Strength check. Luc: lTkell4zp_1d20+15, MagnaGuard p_1d20+1, -1 for being the droid equivalent of Winded (19 final). guard does quite well but it's not enough. He's thrown directly into the wall behind him - because this is a point blank blast into the door from something that would normally fling him 3 squares he takes 3d6 damage: p_3d6The droid and the door both take 9 damage; the MagnaGuard falls prone, the door is scratched but unaffected (it has 10 Soak and 50 HP).
Next up are the assorted droids.
5 is next. He uses his Movement action to get back up from the ground and attacks Lucifer again: p_1d20+8, opposed by Lucifer's block: p_1d20+23Luc wins, Ripostes: p_1d20+23, wins easily. Rolls damage: p_2d8+1016 damage.
3 uses his Movement action to move to 8,6 and attacks Xaos. p_1d20+8Miss.
4 uses his Movement action to move to 9,6. Lucifer is now being flanked by 4 and 5 and they receive a +2 to their attacks against him. 4 attacks: p_1d20+10Does no good, still misses.
2 uses his Movement to stand Prone. He sacrifices his Standard Action to gain another Move action and move to 7,4 beside Xaos.
6 makes a Full Attack action with both ends of his weapon against Reaver. p_1d20+3,p_1d20+3Neither lands.
Reaver is up.
1. Xaos 2. Lucifer 3. MagnaGuard 5 4. MagnaGuard 3 6. MagnaGuard 4 7. MagnaGuard 2 8. MagnaGuard 6 9. Reaver is next 10. Tora 11. MagnaGuard 1
Reaver thrust his right hand towards the magnaguards chest and unleashed a burst of force lightning at the hole in it's chest left by his lightsabre, hoping that the lightning attcking its systems from the inside would wreak havoc.
Jamming his hand into the hole left by his attack, Reaver discharged a torrent of lightning into the droid. It was very nearly destroyed outright, but its power regulation systems managed to save it from total destruction. Still, the droid's systems were critically damaged, and it visibly swayed as it tried to raise its weapon again. It was clear that one more good hit would destroy it completely.
At the back of the fight, Tora watched the Sith fight with keen interest and a small manner of fear. He had no intention of jumping into this fight, and anyway he was learning far more observing the skill and power of the Sith Lords.
Darth Lucifer: Cool, I might check it out see the progress lol 😄 Me,Sampaga and Blazze and a few others been rping together again of late on another site. At least one of us old folk still about lol

Darth Xaos: I've added a character guide to the first post of the Rise of the New Sith Brotherhood thread; figured it might be useful since I'm rapidly approaching HBO-like numbers of major characters in this thing. lol

Darth Xaos: @ Xyr: That would be awesome, you should!
Jan 13, 2020 23:31:57 GMT
Darth Xaos: @ Sampaga: Raziel has an account here but he only ever dropped by to say hi, he RPs pretty much only on Facebook these days. Byss' player had a different character on the site this community was on right before this one but it's been a while since.

Darth Xaos: I'm gonna try to make the gap until the next one much less. Though I crunched the numbers, and I've got an averaged rate that's basically a chapter or interlude once per year, even despite this recent 3 year gap.
Jan 8, 2020 23:42:12 GMT
Darth Kairos: Only way it could have been worth it is if the bit with the Blazing Chain had included a forty page epic about how in a few decades time a certain Sith Lord would annihilate them with brilliant tactics and amazing wit.
Jan 8, 2020 7:20:44 GMT
Darth Kairos: Well...no. But it was pretty good all the same.
Jan 8, 2020 7:20:07 GMT
Darth Xaos: Thanks, mate, I appreciate it. Though was it worth the wait of the three year gap since the last chapter? lol
Jan 6, 2020 23:25:21 GMT
Darth Kairos: As always, brilliant work my old friend. The way you balance intrigue and drama with a healthy dose of tense combat always gets me excited. And watching Trivas' slide into greater and greater acts of evil is gripping.
Jan 6, 2020 8:29:19 GMT
Darth Xaos: @ Sampaga: Rise of NSB is a fanfiction I've been writing over the years (and continue to write despite us closing down) fictionalizing the events of the old communities, going all the way back to sithorder.com and sithcouncil.com.
Jan 5, 2020 19:21:06 GMT
