Listening carefully to what Aristo had to say, she tried to focus on what the Sith Master had told her. Focus on your muscle control, she told herself. Once again she lifted the blaster, holding it more firmly before; she pulled down the trigger for a mere second and fired again. Not getting it on her first try she tried again and again. Chi-Ki tried to anticipate the direction of each shot before she let go of the trigger to fire each time.
Making these adjustments to her approach Chi-Ki was able to, at length, reduce the pylon to a pile of rubble.
"You have the correct technique now," Aristo said, "But using this in combat will not be easy as shooting a rock." Moving over to a control panel, Aristo toggled a command that caused five large durasteel balls on chains to descend from the ceiling. Raising his hands Aristo began to telekinetically propel the weights to swing on their chains in a circular patter around Chi. "When I send one of these at you then you are to blast it with an enhanced shot," the Sith instructed. And no sooner had he finished speaking that he propelled the first weight at the Cerean.
"Right," Chi-Ki managed to say before the ball came at her. Chi was surprised at the speed in which the durasteel ball moved towards her, but she stood her ground. Determined to get this one right on her first try she did her best to stay clear-minded. She quickly pulled down the trigger and aimed it at the ball all in one motion, holding it down for a moment, then releasing the enhanced blast at the target.
The blazing bolt of heated plasma burst forth from the blaster's muzzle and blew the durasteel weight to rubble. Now freed of the weight, its chain swung wildly in the air. Not wasting a second, Aristo caused two more of the weights to draw back then come at Chi-Ki from opposite directions.
Chi-Ki, with her quick thinking, charged up a new bolt and fired it at the durasteel ball coming at her front side. She then tumbled to her side to dodge the second ball. Once she was back on her feet she charged up another bolt of energy and released it and the ball that was now moving away from her. She turned to see what the last two durasteel balls were doing.
Chi did not stop to admire her keen handiwork in avoiding and destroying both balls before anticipating movements from the remaining weights. She was beginning to understand how her new instructor thought. Aristo telekinetically sent the last weights into a pattern of irregular, whirling movements. The way the spinning weights buzzsawed about, moving closer and further away in unpredictable attacks, reminded the Cerean of hazards she'd seen in holofilms.
Chi forced jumped out of the way when either of the weights came too close for comfort. She attempted to find a pattern in the movements, but discovered none. She then began to try and fire enhanced bolts to where she believed the durasteel balls would be by the time the bolt reached its target. She had done this earlier when her Sith Master had her fire at him. Since these were much larger targets she did not think they would be any more difficult.
With her well-honed Force Leaps, Chi-Ki was able to avoid the weights when they neared thus giving her the space and time necessary to take multiple shots at the berserk balls. Eventually she managed to eliminate both without suffering a single hit.
"Excellent work," Aristo commented as the Cerean arose, it was the very few unequivocal bits of praise she'd received from him, "You now have the basic blaster training you'll need to survive in this galaxy of war. You may now retire to your chambers. Make sure you are well-rested because tomorrow you will undertake your first task for the Brotherhood."
Something about that sounded ominous to Chi.
(OOC: Add the Power Blast Perk to your bio. Tomorrow I'll start up the next phase of training.)
Chi was proud that she was able to get a compliment out of Darth Aristo by the end of the day. Chi, however, was a bit confused on what she could do for the Brotherhood. She was still very new to how the Brotherhood. Although, the Cerean was very tired from her lack of sleep from the previous night and her training. Unlike the previous night Chi-Ki took off her cloak this night, unsheathed her dagger, and held onto as she fell asleep. She had no idea what Aristo might do in the morning to wake her up so she thought it better to as prepared as she could be.
Freed of the restriction of wearing armor at all times, Chi was able to clean herself and get a proper sleep, as opposed to her first night on Vjun. She felt in much better condition the next morning, perhaps if she knew what was awaiting her she might have even felt prepared for it. But instead a mystery hung over Chi-Ki's conical head between the time she awoke and when she was summoned to Aristo's presence. This time she was not to meet him in the training room but, instead, had to search out the room he contacted her from. Finally, Chi-Ki found her destination in the castle's winding hallways, passing through the doors to enter a semi-circular room with a grand, sprawling window looking out on the planet's rough surface.
"Apprentice," Aristo addressed Chi without turning his gaze from the window, "You have adequately grasped the instruction I have given you so far; it is my determination that you won't be a waste of my time by dying the first time you get put into real combat. However, there is far more to be proved here than minimal suitability. You've shown you can serve the Brotherhood but now you must demonstrate that you will."
"Not long before you arrived, Vjun was put under siege by the Imperial Remnant. It took a number of the finest Sith to repel this invasion but, even after their defeat, the Remnant retains designs on this world. They left behind a trio of spies, arrogantly presuming that my agents would not detect them. These three men are operating a listening post in a mining village not far from here."
"The spies have set up a house as a weather monitoring station, a well-chosen cover to disguise the tech they use for sendong information back to their superiors on Bastion. I've taken the liberty of having Union Intelligence modify your status in records from MIA to an active member of the Jedi Order. It will be detected as an 'error' within a few weeks but in the interim this will allow you to identify yourself to the spies as a Jedi. Your story will be that you successfully infiltrated Bast Castle and downloaded important tactical information but that you have been unable to secure means of leaving the planet. Here is a datapad with that information and directions to the village. Ensure that the contents are included in the spies' next transmission then ensure that it is their...final transmission. The misinformation in the datapad will mean that if the Remnant invades again they will suffer a number of miscalculations."
"But, because you must present yourself as having covertly egressed from the Castle, you will be making this journey on foot. It's only about a day-and-half round trip but the trip is as much a part of your test. As you may know, Vjun is famed for its acidic rain; you will have to overcome this natural danger to succeed."
